JR sewing designs clothing for life-loving women. Always wear a smile.
JR sewing is a women's wear apparel company that was founded in 2008 by fashion designer Jana Reiche in Berlin, Germany.
We combine an urban, nonchalant style with a touch of wild west romance.
Our basics are designed to save you time and effort getting dressed, make you feel comfortable all day, and look good. JR sewing is about being independent, starting small but thinking big, following your dreams and riding into the sunset. At JR sewing we embrace slow fashion, good workmanship and consumer consciousness. Every collection includes crossover looks of unique up-cycling designs and long-lasting basic pieces.
Jana Reiche (*1982) is a native of Berlin, Germany. She attended her first sewing class in elementary school. As a teenager her first internship was at “Mode Center Berlin”, a former showroom, wholesaling and fashion exhibition place. After graduating from high school she went to ESMOD fashion school in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
Her graduation collection was a lingerie collection called “patched”. It was inspired by saloon and dancehall ladies of the old west in the 19th century.
During her education Jana went to NYC for summer internships and worked in the garment district of Manhattan. After graduating from fashion school she worked as an assistant-designer in NYC for a year.
Thrilled by the entrepreneurial mood of New York, Jana started her first business in Berlin selling fabrics and trims, giving sewing classes and sewing customized cloth.
In 2008 she founded JR sewing and opened a store in Berlin-Neukölln offering her own designs.
JR sewing became a successful T-Shirt and Lifestyle brand selling online and in several stores throughout Germany. She was the first to print the slogan “Is mir egal, ich lass das jetzt so!” on a T-Shirt in 2008, which became a big success and got copied countless times. One of her shirts is kept in the Fashion Museum Archiv of Berlin city as a Zeitgeist example for the end of the noughties.
Time for a break. 2015–2019: Jana became mother of two kids.
Now she is reinventing JR sewing to a grown up business and the womens wear brand she always wanted to work for as a fashion designer.
